The lesion is encountered on either the medial or lateral surface of the talar dome. The etiology is unknown, although trauma has been implicated, particularly in lateral lesions.
57 The most common location of JOCD is on the lateral border of the medial femoral condyle, Management of osteochondritis dissecans of the femoral condyle. Treatment algorithm for osteochondritis dissecans of the knee. 2020-03-12 Osteochondral lesions or osteochondritis dessicans can occur in any joint, but are most common in the knee and ankle. Such lesions are a tear or fracture in the cartilage covering one of the bones in a joint. The cartilage can be torn, crushed or damaged and, in rare cases, a cyst can form in the cartilage.

Osteochondritis dissecans is a bone and cartilage condition that most often occurs in the knee. It has no known cause, but repetitive stress on the joint, low vitamin D and a genetic predisposition are often linked to this condition. Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD or OD) is a joint disorder primarily of the subchondral bone in which cracks form in the articular cartilage and the underlying subchondral bone. OCD usually causes pain during and after sports. In later stages of the disorder there will be swelling of the affected joint which catches and locks during movement. Osteochondritis dissecans is an idiopathic disease which affects the subchondral bone and its overlying articular cartilage due to loss of blood flow. This may result in separation and instability of a segment of cartilage and free movement of these osteochondral fragments within the joint space.
